Dr.-Ing. Markus Miettinen (born 1976) received his M.Sc. in computer science from the University of Helsinki in 2002 and his doctorate from the Technical University of Darmstadt in 2018.
He has more than a decade of professional experience in industrial research working as a research engineer and senior research engineer at the Nokia Research Center in Helsinki, Finland and Lausanne, Switzerland.
In 2012, Dr. Miettinen joined the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (Fraunhofer SIT), shortly thereafter transferring to the Technical University of Darmstadt in 2013.
He is Professor for IT-Security and Programming at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. His research interests are centred around security for the Internet of Things (IoT), the application of modern AI techniques for security as well as security of AI algorithms. He is inventor or co- inventor in 19 international granted patents in ten patent families.
I am offering M.Sc. and B.Sc. thesis topics on diverse challenges related to IoT Security, the use of AI algorithms for security functionalities and the security of AI algorithms themselves. To be able to successfully work on these topics you should have some background knowledge on computer security and / or machine learning algorithms. You are welcome to contact me even in case you are not sure whether a topic would be suitable for you. We will determine this based on a joint discussion and decide on the exact scope of the thesis based on the discussion.
