About KomSI

The Competence Center for Social Intervention Research aims to further develop research in social work both methodologically and theoretically and to contribute to its visibility in the public sphere. It investigates social challenges such as poverty, unemployment and homelessness, migration and displacement, violence, crime, radicalization, and many more topics and subjects, as well as related interventions in the field of social work.

Its core strengths lies in the (critical) study of social work institutions (institutional research), the exploration of the relationships between professionals and clients (interaction research), as well as the study of professional culture (research on professional culture and habitus).

The Competence Center serves as a hub for exchange and networking among researchers, students, social work practitioners, social policy makers, and the public.

The goal is the reciprocal transfer of research ideas and results into

  • Education and Teaching through projects involving research-based learning, guidance for empirical work, the training of student assistants, and participation in curricular discussions
  • Science through the implementation of research projects, lectures, workshops, and conferences, as well as the support of scientific publications in the field of social intervention research
  • Social Practice through the identification of practical applications, ensuring practice-oriented and participatory social intervention research, institutionalizing a research dialogue with cooperation partners from social practice, and addressing the implications of research findings for practice
  • Public Engagement through the publication of results and activities in the press and on social networks, as well as lectures for a broader audience.
