Education loan
The education loan is another state financing option. It differs from BAföG in several respects: It serves to support advanced phases of study. Approval does not depend on income. And it is granted exclusively as a low-interest loan, which can cover € 7,200.00 over a maximum of two years.
The education loan can only be approved and paid out until the month in which you turn 36. When you apply, you only have to prove that you are successfully studying in at least an intermediate, but maximum in the 12th university semester. For a Bachelor's degree study, this means that at least the coursework of the first two semesters must be fully completed. If you have already passed the 12th semester, a loan will only be granted if the thesis has already been admitted. Educational loans are possible not only for Bachelor's but also for Master's degree studies. However, there is no legal entitlement to funding. Repayment of the loan begins four years after the first payment. For foreign students, the same application requirements apply as for BAföG.
Only those who have a foreigner status that entitles them to receive BAföG also have a chance of receiving an education loan.
Information on the education loan is available at the Federal Office of Administration.
Advice on the education loan is offered by the Studentenwerk Frankfurt.
