Housing in Frankfurt

Finding Accommodation

When looking for accommodation in Frankfurt, please be aware that rental prices here are quite high. The average rent for a room (10 to 15 square meters, shared bathroom and kitchen) is 500,00 €.

Generally speaking, there are two options: you can live in a single or a shared apartment. Please note that shared rooms are not common in Germany. Each resident has their own bedroom, while kitchen and bathroom are shared. You can also choose between furnished and unfurnished rooms.

You are always responsible for cleaning your room or apartment yourself! If you wish, you can hire a cleaner. However, this service is not included in the rent and must be paid for separately.

Unfortunately, Frankfurt UAS does not own any dorms. Public dorms are organized by the Studierendenwerk. You can register there. However, there are long waiting times for a dorm. You need to find a suitable room or house by yourself.

We have collected some useful information for you here. Make it in Germany and DAAD also offer tips and tricks on housing in Germany.

You can find out more on our Housing and Accommodation page.

We have also compiled a List of Accommodation for you.

You can find an overview on the  International Office's dorm site.

Registration of Residence

When moving into a new place, you must register your residence at the Citizens' office within two weeks of moving in. It is very important that you have a confirmation of residence (Wohnungsgeberbstätigung PDF) for this, a rental agreement is not sufficient.

Please contact the Citizens' office at your place of residence for further information.

For Frankfurt, visit Registration of a residence.

Caution! Housing Scams

Fraudsters are increasingly trying to obtain personal data or money via real estate platforms. Therefore, never transfer a deposit or other amounts of money before signing a rental agreement. Furthermore, there is no reason to send people a photo of your ID until you have viewed an apartment. Be careful and contact us if in doubt!
